Junior Girls Competitive Program

Field Hockey Nova Scotia will running two junior girls field hockey programs this summer. The following is information about the competitive program. More information will be coming out soon about developmental girls program.

What: The competitive program is for those interested in learning and playing field hockey at a competitive level.  These girls will practice 2 - 4 hours per week and compete in a couple of tournaments throughout the summer. The team is hoping to compete in two tournaments: Either Ontario or Eastern US.  There will be more information to follow when details are finalized.

Age and Experience: Girls 13 - 18 years of age.  Experience is not important, all athletes will be given the opportunity to learn and develop

When: Begins Sunday, April 30th, 12 - 2pm at Dal Wickwire field.   The team will practice until the end of July, the second tournament may be in August (yet to be determined).  

Register: Send the attached registration form to jheppell@eastlink.ca. The team fee is set at $400 (includes turf fees, team gear/clothing, FHNS/FHC membership) plus tournaments.  A portion of the team fee will be due at the start of the program, the remainder can be paid by the first of June.  Fundraising and sponsorship opportunities will be available to the athletes. Sticks and goalie gear will be provided at the start of the program.  Girls will then have a chance to purchase their own stick.  Mouth guards and shin guards are mandatory at all practices.

Nancy Tokaryk Golf Tournament

Registration for the 5th Annual Nancy Tokaryk Memorial Golf Tournament is now open. Please find the registration form attached. Your registration fee includes a donation to the Nancy Tokaryk Memorial Trust Fund which has been established to commemorate Nancy's contribution to the sport of women's field hockey, her personal leadership, student mentorship, and volunteer community services in the form of a scholarship.

Halifax Fighting Haddocks Earn Silver at CIC


The Halifax Fighting Haddocks Indoor team travelled to Waterloo, Ontario to compete in the Canadian Indoor Classic Tournament in February. The team was comprised of players from Nova Scotia with a few additions. In the group stage the Haddocks defeated C-FHC (Field Hockey Club) 4-3 and Toronto FHC 7-2, with their only loss to defending champions Toronto Lions 4-5 to finish in the pool in 2nd place. The Haddocks, in the semi final were matched up against OKD. The Haddocks battled to a 3-3 tie, before going to a shootout. Shane Rajaraman, Anton Wernik and Balmeet Kullar all scored for the Haddocks in the shootout victory.  This sent the Haddocks to their first ever CIC Championship Final! The CIC Championship final was a dramatic end to a thrilling tournament with the Haddocks losing 3-2. Shane Rajaraman was named Tournament MVP and Manny Grewal received the Tournament Top Goalie Award from the Haddocks Team.

Robert Oulton

On Wednesday, February 15, Rob Oulton passed away unexpectedly due to complications from his diabetes. A memorial service was held for him on Saturday, February 25, 6pm at Brightwood Golf Club.  

Rob was a long time field hockey coach at both QEH and Dartmouth High and was major contributor to many young players entering the sport. Rob went on to coach at Acadia University for many years. Field Hockey Nova Scotia will be making a donation to Acadia University Field Hockey in memory of Rob and for anyone wishing to also contribute on his behalf, here is the information on how to do so.

Dalhousie Crowned Atlantic University Champions

Dalhousie University captured the Atlantic University Field Hockey Championship this weekend at the AUFH Playoffs being hosted at UPEI from October 29-30, 2016.  Dalhousie and UPEI faced off in championship game and the two teams were tied 3-3 at the end of the regulation sending it to shoot out where Dal won 3-0.  Danica Jayme (Dal) was named the League MVP.  For full results and league awards see the stats and results below.
