FHNS Indoor League

Field Hockey Nova Scotia Indoor League is beginning in the new year.  We are always looking for new players to join the league.  If you are interested in playing please email Sharon Rajaraman at coaching@fieldhockey.ns.ca.  The League will begin on Sunday January 10 from 10am-2pm and run every Sunday at Needham Community Center.

Vote for David Carter and Sukhi Panesar for Hockey Stars 2015

Canada’s field hockey teams have three representatives nominated for Hockey Stars 2015, the International Hockey Federation’s annual awards recognizing the best in their position from the past year.

On the men’s side, David Carter has been nominated for Goalkeeper of the Year, and Sukhi Panesar has been nominated for Rising Star of the Year.

On the women’s side, Women’s National Team assistant coach and Junior National Team head coach Steph Andrews is among three nominees up for Coach of the Year.

The winners of each player category will be determined by a combination of a peer vote from international athletes and fan voting, which is open to the public from now until January 20, 2016.

Canadian fans are encouraged to vote for Carter and Panesar at http://fih.ch/hockeystars.

Umpire Course with Wendy and Tony Steward

Field Hockey Nova Scotia recently hosted an umpiring course instructed by International Umpires Tony and Wendy Steward.  This was an extremely exciting and educational opportunity for Field Hockey in Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada.

2015 Atlantic University Field Hockey Championships

The 2015 Atlantic University Field Hockey Championships took place Oct. 24 and 25 at Dalhousie and Saint Mary's Universities.   For a second year in a row Dalhousie captured the Atlantic University Championship in an exciting gold medal game versus UPEI. The championship game needed overtime to decide a winner.  UPEI's goal was scored by Alyssa Ferguson while Jaclyn Sanderson scored both regulation and the overtime winner for Dal.

In the bronze medal game, SMU defeated UNB 2-1 in a shoot out. The SMU goal was scored by Alyssa Walthers while the lone UNB goal was scored by Nathalie LaPlante.  In the shootout, SMU won 3 goals to 1 to earn the bronze medal.

After the championship weekend, league all stars were announced: Hailee Cook - UNB, Ashley Maynard - ACA, Alyssa Ferguson, Katherine Koughan, Sarah Sear - UPEI, Danica Jamye, Maya Palacio, Samantha Spooner - DAL, Lauren Perry, Alyssa Walthers - SMU.

Major award winners were awarded to:

Rookie of the Year - Maya Palacio Dal, Goalie of the Year - Ashley Maynard ACA, Outstanding Contributor Award - Emily Ross UPEI, League MVP - Alyssa Walthers SMU, Coach of the Year - Shona Bowes UNB, Umpire of the Year - Mario DeMello

2015 Atlantic University Field Hockey Playoffs

This weekend Dalhousie and Saint Mary's Universities are hosting the 2015 Atlantic University Field Hockey Playoffs.  Seven teams across the maritimes will compete to win this year's university title.  All are welcome to come out and watch at Dal and SMU turf.
